Uber launches Credit Card
Uber has teamed up with Barclaycard US to launch a rewards-heavy, no-annual-fee Visa credit card. Interest rates are said to be between 16% and 24%
The Uber Visa Card is available nationwide beginning November 2, 2017. US riders can apply for the card from within the Uber app and get the application status within minutes.
Uber reports that rewards can be earned for all purchases. These rewards are more rewarding for things like grabbing dinner with a friend, booking your next trip, taking an Uber to work, or even shopping online. Rewards can be redeemed for Uber credits (that you can use on both rides and UberEATS), cash back, and a wide variety of gift cards.
The card also provides various additional benefits such as annual $50 subscription credit that can be used on services like Spotify, Netflix, or an Amazon Prime membership. Cardholders will also get coverage for mobile phone theft or damage and receive invites to exclusive events like secret shows and dining experiences.
Uber hopes to reach into customers’ lives for the data that this venture into fintech can give them. Barclaycard hopes to acquire customers through Uber more easily than by direct mailing.
